This sculpture is a scene from the 1998 Halloween flood in the Augusta, Kansas area.  A couple of men in a boat are rescuing a man and his dog.

Some of the more recent events such as Hurricane Katrina and Ike make our flood seem like a novelty, but at the time, it seemed like serious business.
